Caspar Johannes Walter

Caspar Johannes Walter is a composer and cellist. In 1985 he co-founded the Cologne Thürmchen Verlag and in 1991 the Thürmchen Ensemble. He has received numerous important composition prizes and scholarships, including the 1998 German Record Critics’ Prize for his portrait CD of chamber music (Deutscher Musikrat/Wergo).

Walter has held positions as composer in residence, composition teacher and professor (Birmingham, Stuttgart). Since 2013 he has held a professorship at the Musikakademie Basel. Since 2014 he has been a member of the Akademie der Künste Berlin, where he initiated and supervised the “Labor Beethoven 2020”.
