Kerstin Steeb
speaker
The director Kerstin Steeb often deconstructs the strict form of opera through her own adaptations and thus uncovers a current explosiveness in the subject matter (Staatsoper Hamburg, Theater Hagen, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, and many more).
The struggle for gender-sensitive behaviour has shaped her work from the beginning and is consolidated in her free projects, for example by helping the female composer Ethel Smyth onto the repertoire. With a majority female team, she also realised the free production “The Forest”, which is “so political, present-day, with consistent shape” (Hamburger Abendblatt).
